Syracuse police warn of new vehicle theft trend; 29 vehicles stolen in 3 months

Syracuse, N.Y. — A new theft trend targeting four vehicle brands has led to almost 30 vehicles being stolen recently in the Syracuse area, police said.

Since mid-October, there have been at least 29 Infiniti Q50, Lexus, Nissan and Toyota vehicles stolen throughout the city. Information on social media describing how to steal these vehicles is a possible reason for the jump in thefts, police said.

Thefts of these vehicles are increasing nationwide, police said. In California, nearly a dozen Infiniti and Nissan models were stolen and wrecked or burned in one weekend in October, according to NBC Los Angeles…
