Cortez cements unbeaten league campaign for Pioneer Valley girls tennis team

It took Jocelyn Cortez about 15 minutes Monday to cement a historic league campaign for the Pioneer Valley girls tennis team.

Cortez beat Orcutt Academy’s Veronica Amador 10-5 in a third-set tiebreak at Hancock College Monday to give the Panthers a 5-4 win over the Spartans and put the wrap on the Panthers’ 10-0 Ocean League campaign.

The Cortez-Amador tiebreak Monday in the No. 4 singles match was the resumption of the Pioneer Valley-Orcutt Academy Ocean League match at Hancock College, Orcutt’s home site, that was called because of darkness with the teams tied 4-4 and Cortez and Amador still to play their tiebreak after splitting two sets…
