A split of two third-set singles tiebreaks was good enough for the Nipomo girls tennis team Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the CIF Central Section Division 5 Playoffs.

In a match-up of two Central Coast Athletic Association (CCAA) teams, the No. 7 Titans upset short-handed No. 2 Orcutt Academy 5-4 at Hancock College in the quarterfinals. The Spartans were without Kate Dolan, their No. 2 singles player who has often played No. 1 doubles with Emma Fields. Dolan was out with an illness.

Meanwhile, four other CCAA teams, No. 1 Santa Ynez in Division 2 and No. 1 Lompoc in Division 3, along with No. 2 San Luis Obispo and No. 4 Arroyo Grande in Division 1, advanced…
