MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. — Kentucky has a critical shortage of large animal veterinarians, but legislative efforts are trying to address the problem.
Kentucky House Bill 153 was introduced last week, and local representative Steven Rudy says it could open doors to opportunities for universities and the public.
Similar bills were introduced last year to allow Murray State University to establish a school of veterinary medicine. Those bills, House Bill 400 and Senate Bill 189, aimed to remove a ban on veterinary schools on regional college campuses, an obstacle preventing such a school from being created at Murray State.
