Man accused in fatal Metro stabbing pleads not guilty

A 46-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a woman on a Metro train in the Studio City area pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder and robbery charges.

Elliott Tramel Nowden is scheduled to return to court in downtown Los Angeles on Jan. 24, when a date will be set for a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence for him to stand trial on the charges of murder and first-degree robbery. The murder charge includes a special circumstance allegation of murder during a robbery.

Nowden could face a potential life prison sentence without the possibility of parole if he is convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
