Southern California city cracking down on unleashed dogs

A city in Southern California is addressing an increase in complaints about unleashed dogs by releasing a statement that “emphasizes leash laws” and signals an increase in enforcement.

La Cañada Flintridge officials say that they are launching an initiative with Pasadena Humane to educate residents about the city’s leash laws after an uptick in reports of dogs off leashes at Mayor’s Discovery Park.

According to the city, all dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet in length. Dogs must always remain under full control of their owner or custodian while in public, including at city parks and on trails or upon private property other than that of the dog owner, officials added.

“We want to ensure that all park visitors feel safe and comfortable,” said La Cañada Flintridge Mayor Michael T. Davitt. “Unleashed dogs can pose a risk to both people and other animals. By following leash laws, we can create a safer and more peaceful environment for everyone.”…
