A Johnstown resident is under arrest after a wild chase with police that occurred early Wednesday morning. According to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, the events that occurred on October 23 sound like an action scene out of a movie.
A Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop near Eisenhower Boulevard and Sculptor Drive at approximately 3 a.m. when a white 2018 Buick Encore drove past the deputy at a high rate of speed, nearly hitting the law enforcement officer standing outside of the stopped vehicle. A Loveland Police officer made an attempt to pull over the Buick, but the driver eluded officers.
The Buick was once again located in Loveland at the intersection of 1st Street and South Taft Avenue when the driver sped off and turned off the headlights. The pursuit continued with the suspect traveling on Highway 402 and south on Interstate 25 at speeds exceeding 110 miles per hour. The Buick then exited onto Highway 56 in Berthoud and drove into the park and ride lot. At this time, the driver of the Buick hit a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office cruiser and fled the scene, traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 25. Law enforcement used a PIT to stop the vehicle. The suspect fled on foot onto private property near the 4300 block of Weld OCunty Road 44.
