Lubbock City Council accepts plan to improve public health

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lubbock’s city council has accepted a new roadmap to help lead the Public Health Department in making the Hub City a healthier place.

All councilmembers but District 3’s David Glasheen voted Tuesday to accept the Community Health Improvement Plan, or CHIP, and the findings of the Community Health Needs Assessment.

In 2023, the previous city council tasked the health department with gathering this information to help it focus on the most critical needs in the city. After a seven-month study, it determined those priorities include access to healthcare, mental health and substance use, chronic conditions, Sexually Transmitted Infections and coordination of information, services and resources…
