Man arrested after ‘chemical agent’ deployed in Lubbock SWAT callout

LUBBOCK, Texas — A heavy police presence was reported in the 6600 block of Chicago Avenue due to a SWAT callout on Friday morning, according to the Lubbock Police Department. The situation ended later in the morning with Davy Stanford, 44, taken into custody by police.

LPD said officers were called for a domestic disturbance at a residence in the area around 8:26 a.m.,

According to LPD, a third-party caller told authorities there was a disturbance going on between two family members. Lt. Brady Cross said officers found a man and woman near the front door when they got to the home. The man slammed the door in officers’ faces and the woman started screaming for help, Cross said.

Negotiators and the SWAT unit arrived. The woman was eventually able to leave the home. Police said they have not been able to confirm if Stanford had a gun. However, he did threaten the woman with a knife, police said.

The SWAT team deployed a “chemical agent” in the home, according to Cross. Stanford was eventually taken into custody and charged with Unlawful Restraint and Aggravated Assault, Cross said.
