LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock police officer has taken “community policing” to heart, inspiring his own neighbor to join the force. Ismael Torres recently graduated from the Lubbock Police Academy, after he grew up living across the street from Officer Trey Mayer.
Mayer has served people all across Lubbock for two decades. Little did he know, he would have a significant impact, right across his street. Nearly 20 years ago, Torres moved into Officer Mayer’s neighborhood. He became close friends with Mayer’s children and spent a lot of time with their family.
A detective at the time, Mayer wasn’t always in a marked car, but when he was, Torres was right there to ask about the lights, sirens and the stories…
