First Alert Weather Day Tuesday and early Wednesday ahead of snow and ice

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – Tonight, cloud cover grows, but we remain dry. Temperatures will be cold in the 20s and low 30s, and wind chills will be harsh in the teens and 20s. Tuesday’s highs will be in the mid-30s to low 40s. Our First Alert Weather Day begins Tuesday afternoon as snow and ice move into South Georgia.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued from 4 PM Tuesday to 11 AM Wednesday across South Georgia ahead of the winter storm. The impacts from this storm include snow accumulation of 2+ inches with higher amounts possible in a few spots and ice accumulation up to 0.25″ especially for areas south of Highway 82 and east of I-75. Accumulating ice can weigh down trees and power lines, making power outages possible. Whether it is snow or ice, any accumulation will cause hazardous travel conditions, please travel with extreme caution.

Outside of the winter storm, temperatures remain cold promoting Extreme Cold Warnings. Low temperatures for several mornings this week drop below-freezing with highs barely breaking out of the 30s and 40s.
