ALEXANDRIA, VA-Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School (Tucker) has received the Purple Star Designation Award. The award is presented to schools committed to supporting military families. It is valid for three years.
The Virginia Council on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children voted to approve Tucker for the award.
To earn the award, specific requirements must be met. These include:
- appointing a staff member as a point of contact for military-connected students and their families
- ensuring access to digital resources and establishing a student-led program to help with transition to a new environment
