Worker killed in rockslide at Mass. quarry identified

STERLING, Mass. (WPRI) — Officials have identified the victim killed in a rock collapse at a Sterling quarry on Thursday morning.

Brian Curtis Derby, 67, of Townsend, Mass., died after being buried under debris when a portion of a rock ledge collapsed onto the excavator he was operating.

The Worcester County District Attorney said crews from multiple agencies worked through the night to recover Derby’s body, which was taken from the scene by the medical examiner early Friday morning.
