It’s championship weekend for high school football in Louisiana, as 16 teams will compete for state titles Thursday through Saturday at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
Three Acadiana area teams have a shot at hoisting trophies in the LHSAA Prep Classic: Vermilion Catholic Screamin’ Eagles, Catholic High New Iberia Panthers, and Cecilia Bulldogs.
The latter are in the state title game for the second straight year. Coach Dennis Skains’ #18-seeded Bulldogs will take on the top-seeded Franklinton Demons for the Division II Non-Select State Championship.
Last year Cecilia fell just short of a state title, losing to the Opelousas Tigers. This year’s team sure seems special and they’re hoping to finish the deal and earn the school’s first title since 1995…
