Sweeps underway at New Orleans homeless encampments, residents ordered to relocate by Gov. Landry

NEW ORLEANS — Starting on Wednesday, the unhoused community can no longer stay at multiple encampment sites around New Orleans. Although Governor Jeff Landry is issuing an end to various sites — he is offering a new location for unhoused people to stay.

However, it is temporary and has limited space. It’s a shelter capable of housing up to 200 homeless people.

Louisiana State Police are expected to close an encampment near the Warehouse District along with other spaces around the Superdome, French Quarter, I-10, and Highway 90 on Wednesday…
