City of East Point pays family $2.1 million over inmate’s overdose death, attorney says

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The City of East Point has reached a $2.1 million settlement in the death of a 23-year-old woman who died of an untreated drug overdose while she was in custody, attorneys for the woman’s family said Wednesday.

Olivia Hannah died at the city jail on April 9, 2021, after she was arrested for alleged shoplifting, according to attorneys with law firm Spears & Filipovits.

Shortly after Hannah died, the attorneys filed a lawsuit against the City of East Point, two officers at the jail and an East Point police officer on behalf of Hannah’s family, claiming the defendants could have prevented her death…
