Carrying a badge – and a Ph.D.: Worcester police officer on duty with cybersecurity degree

WORCESTER — Whatever motivated Brian Bisceglia, an electrical engineer with three patents ascribed to his work, to leave the field and become a police officer in Worcester is deeply personal and a topic he avoids discussing.

But that same drive earned him both bachelor’s and master’s degrees that motivated him to return to school in his 40s while an investigator for the Worcester police to earn a doctorate in cybersecurity management from Nova Southeastern University’s College of Computing and Engineering , based in Florida.

It’s a rare accomplishment in any field. About 2% of the world’s population has earned a doctorate, even more rare in police work. In recognizing his achievement, the Worcester Police Department posted its congratulations on its official Facebook page, kudos echoed through more than a thousand likes and loves as well as hundreds of congratulatory comments…
