PennDOT Announces Online Plan Display for Route 75 Bridge Restoration

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced an online plan display for the upcoming restoration project of the Route 75 (Fort Loudon Road) bridge over Buck Run, located approximately 2 miles north of Mercersburg in Peters Township. The primary goal of the project is to rehabilitate the existing bridge to ensure its continued safe and efficient use.

Key aspects of the restoration include replacing the bridge’s beams and deck, along with substructure repairs, minor roadway reconstruction near the bridge, drainage improvements, and updates to guide rails, scour protection, pavement markings, and signage. The construction will also involve setting up a temporary cofferdam to facilitate substructure repairs.

To accommodate construction, the bridge will be closed to all traffic for about eight months. Due to a pre-existing weight restriction on the bridge, separate detours for cars and trucks will be implemented. The car detour will span approximately 5 miles via Orchard Road, Lemar Road, and Route 416. The truck detour will extend about 16 miles, utilizing Route 75, US 30, and Route 416. Driveway access within the project limits will be maintained throughout the construction period…
