Maryville man charged with setting house fire

A Maryville man is in custody after deputies said he set a Friendsville house on fire and announced a desire to ignite a second. Damien Jovon Tackett, 40, Springdale Street, allegedly told deputies he set the blaze to harm a resident after being arrested Sunday evening, Jan. 5.

He faces charges of aggravated arson of a residence, resisting arrest and public intoxication and was being held in lieu of bonds totaling $75,000 pending a 9 a.m. Jan. 13 hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court.
