‘Thank you’ Gatlinburg honors those who served at annual Veterans Day celebration

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) — The keynote speaker at the annual Veterans Day Celebration in Gatlinburg said being a veteran means being a part of something bigger than yourself.

Members of the Gatlinburg-Pittman High School Concert Band kicked off the 25th annual Veterans Day celebration right at 11 a.m., on the 11th day of the 11th month, the anniversary marking the end of World War I. Veterans gathered on the patio of Ripley’s Aquarium Plaza appreciated the ‘Thank You’ offered by the city of Gatlinburg.

“I’m glad I’m a veteran myself,” said Robert Carter, U.S. Army veteran. “I’m glad I was able to serve my country. A lot of people don’t serve nowadays.”
