Weather Impact Alert: Flood Watch in effect through Friday for most of East TN, high wind watch starts Thursday night

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Storms swept through East Tennessee Wednesday, dumping rain and sparking flooding concerns for most of the day. Those concerns will linger through Friday, as Hurricane Helene approaches the southern United States and later impacts areas north of the coast, including East Tennessee.

A Flood Watch will be in effect until around 2 p.m. on Friday for most of the region, including Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Rockwood and Maynardville.

Areas south of Knoxville and Lenoir City will also face a “significant” flooding potential throughout Thursday, such as Blount County and Sevier County. That’s the second-highest threat category. Areas to the north will face an “elevated” flooding potential, the third-highest threat category…
