Bikers come out to Ride for Heroes to raise money for free honor flights for veterans

Ride for Heroes, an event formerly known as Ride for Honor, raised money to help Honor Flight Dayton send vets to Washington, D.C.

LIMA, OH (WLIO) – Motorcyclists came together to help send local veterans on the trip of a lifetime.

Ride for Heroes, an event formerly known as Ride for Honor, raised money to help Honor Flight Dayton send vets to Washington, D.C., to pay respects to their fallen fellow soldiers at the national memorials.

Chained Eagles also brought their mobile display to educate the public about the P.O.Ws from Ohio who never came home. The group rode from Lima to Celina. Four veterans joined the ride by car as honorary grand marshals, one from the Korean War, one from the Vietnam War, and two from World War 2.

Thanks to donations and fundraisers like this, the lodging, food, and travel costs are covered, and veterans pay nothing for their honor flights. 

“My four grand marshals have been stoked from two months ago when I assigned them. I got a 98-year-old, I got a 97-year-old; they’re just totally stoked, and I’m so honored that we’re going to recognize those guys today,” said Mike Melvin, the local coordinator for Honor Flight Dayton…
