Belmont approves development moratorium for South Point area

BELMONT, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Housing construction will slow down significantly in the South Point area of Belmont over the next few years after the City Council passed a moratorium Monday night.

The temporary policy on new development comes after a study indicated sewer capacity issues from the Morgan’s Branch Pump Station. It puts a blockade on all subdivisions with eight lots or greater in the section of the city south of Henry Chapel Road.

It’s effective Monday, Oct. 7, and is slated to run through April 2027.
