Mecklenburg County Announces Office and Service Closures for MLK Day

Attention, Mecklenburg County residents: make a note on your calendars that county offices and various services will be taking a break for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. According to an announcement made on the Mecklenburg County government’s website, this closure is set for Monday, Jan. 20. Expect doors to be locked and lights to be out in spaces including the Departments of Community Resources, DSS Child, Family, and Adult Services, the Elections Office, and more.

For those planning to take advantage of the day off, don’t expect to spend it at the county’s indoor aquatic facilities or nature centers—they’ll be taking the day off too. However, parks will remain open for a leisurely stroll or a moment of reflection on the significance of the day. On the other hand, a number of facilities, such as the seasonal pools and spraygrounds, will still be closed for the season, alongside offices like the Tax Office and Register of Deeds.

While most services will halt for the holiday, the Department of Social Services reminds residents that their hotlines for reporting suspected abuse or neglect will remain operational throughout the day. If you find yourself witnessing a scenario that demands immediate attention, do not hesitate to make that call…
