Potential snow, ice amounts from weekend winter storm in North Carolina

( PINPOINT WEATHER ) — It is looking more and more likely that the snow drought in Charlotte will end on Friday.

However, this is not going to be your average winter wonderland storm, as we are expecting freezing rain and sleet to mix in Friday night into Saturday morning. This will cut into snow totals significantly.

2-3 inches of snow expected to hit the Triad this weekend

This system will start initially as snowfall Friday afternoon and evening; however, freezing rain and sleet will mix in with the snow Friday night due to warmer air in the upper levels of the atmosphere.

The wintry mix will begin earlier for our South Carolina counties, which is why snow totals will be very low there. This includes Union, Anson, and Richmond counties as well. These areas could receive up to 1 tenth of an inch of ice as well…
