Voters in three Texas cities approved decriminalizing marijuana on ballot measures on Tuesday, including Dallas, the third-largest city by population in the state. Lockhart and Bastrop , in Texas Hill Country, also approved propositions for low-level marijuana possession of four ounces or less.
The new weed laws in Dallas will prevent police from making arrests or issuing citations for Class A or B misdemeanor cannabis possession offenses unless it is part of a high-priority felony investigation for narcotics or violent crime. A Class A misdemeanor is when people possess four ounces or less of marijuana but more than two. A Class B misdemeanor is for people in possession of two ounces or less of marijuana.
