Lancaster County officer cleared in fatal shooting outside police station

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA. (WHTM) — The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office has determined that a Northwest Regional Police officer was justified in shooting an armed Elizabethtown man during an incident earlier this month.

Andrew Ward, 39, died in the shooting outside the Northwest Regional Police station on Elizabethtown Road in Elizabethtown in the early morning hours on Sunday, Nov. 3.

According to the DA’s office, Ward first encountered police around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 when he was arrested for driving under the influence on Elizabethtown Road in Mount Joy Township. Ward’s blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) was .229 at the time of his arrest…
