Local students create mural for a Pennsylvania Turnpike plaza

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A mural created by local art students for a Pennsylvania Turnpike plaza was unveiled Wednesday.

The unveiling was at the Blue Mountain Service Plaza. The mural was created by art students at Shippensburg Area High School.

The artwork was created in conjunction with Art Sparks, which is a partnership between the PCA and PA Turnpike that brings locally created student artwork to service plazas on the Turnpike.

“Art Sparks has provided us a unique opportunity to showcase the communities surrounding the Pennsylvania Turnpike through the eyes of students who live in these communities,” CEO of the PA Turnpike Mark Compton said. “Kudos to Shippensburg Area High School students on their work for the 17th and final Art Sparks project. We are proud to provide their artwork a home at the Blue Mountain Service Plaza and are excited for travelers to recognize the talented youth that make up our Commonwealth.”
