RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) announced plans to improve transit service across the Richmond region, including route expansions and increased route frequencies.
On Wednesday, Oct. 2, GRTC announced plans to improve public transit service, which included a major expansion of GRTC Route 1, as well as frequency increases and additional services of some of its routes.
According to GRTC, the changes and service improvements include the following:
- a major expansion of GRTC Route 1 to serve Virginia Center Commons via Brook Road
- frequency increases on Route 7A/7B to create weekday high-frequency service from Downtown to Church Hill and Richmond International Airport
- additional evening service on the Hull Street/Midlothian Turnpike corridor
- retiming of routes to optimize the Downtown Transfer Station performance
- the addition of Saturday service to Azalea LINK
- the expansion of Ashland LINK to meet Route 1 at VCC
- one additional trip to the Route 91 to improve early morning westbound service
