A chilly fall adventure

A streamside forest aglow in brilliant red and orange signaled to Dottie and me last week that fall had arrived on the Rogue River in Southern Oregon where we met our longtime friend and favorite fishing guide, Jim Andras, for a couple of days of steelhead fishing on a stretch of the river just north of Medford.

October is a really good month to fish the Rogue for steelhead, which are rainbow trout that have spent a year or more in the Pacific and return to their birth-river to spawn.

Unfortunately for us on this trip they were late. While the fishing was great, the catching was a little slow. Thanks to Jim’s knowledge of the river and his hard work, we did find a few fish, but a lot fewer than usual…
