Pending ordinance to create a Parks & Recreation Department, rather than Commission, also up for review
At its first business meeting of the year Wednesday, the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission will vote on a potential exception for pesticide use in the Japanese Garden and a new capital improvements plan and discuss the ordinance to create a Parks & Recreation Department.
Staff have requested an exemption from APRC policy prohibiting the use of synthetic pesticide for the health of conifer trees in the Japanese Garden, according to an agenda item. One Douglas-fir tree is already slated for removal due to stress determined to be beetle damage, pine needle scale and blue stain fungus. Other trees in the area are also showing signs of stress.
