Emergency cold weather shelters are opening across the Treasure Coast, as temperatures are expected to drop below 40 degrees Wednesday night, according to officials in all three counties.

Nonprofits and charitable organizations in coordination with Indian River County opened cold weather shelters Wednesday night with space available for 95 people total, said Ryan Lloyd, Department of Emergency Services deputy director and chief of emergency management.
At the Salvation Army south of Vero Beach at 2655 5th Street Southwest, registration is required either upon arrival or in advance by calling 772-453-5383. The shelter will be open 7 p.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. Thursday and can house 40 people. It is supported through American Red Cross and United Way of Vero Beach, Lloyd said.
