Hurricane Milton: Fort Lauderdale mayor declares state of emergency

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Even before feeling the effects of Hurricane Milton, Fort Lauderdale was already dealing with flooding on Sunday. Mayor Dean J. Trantalis declared a state of emergency.

Gov. Ron DeSantis also declared a state of emergency in over 50 counties, including Broward. Several cities set up sandbagging sites and deployed pumps.

“My emergency declaration allows city leadership to better obtain and deploy resources needed to protect life and property,” Trantalis wrote in a statement. “Heavy rain and flooding are possible and do pose an imminent threat.”…
