Assault rifle found in student’s car at Englewood High

An Englewood High School student was arrested Monday after multiple guns, including an assault rifle, were found in their vehicle on campus, the principal says.

Principal Marleny Chirino sent parents “a message about the safety and security of our school and the life-changing consequences that students can face if they make the wrong decisions.”

Chirino informed parents that police had taken a weapons detection dog to the Southside school. As the dog searched the parking lot off Barnes Road, he alerted on a car that contained an assault rifle, handguns and ammunition…
