Jacksonville Braces for Weekend Frost: Residents Advised to Protect Plants

Residents in Jacksonville and surrounding areas are preparing for a chilly weekend, with the National Weather Service issuing a frost advisory effective from the early hours of Sunday morning. According to the NWS, “Temperatures as low as the lower to middle 30s will result in frost formation.” With frost expected to impact several counties in northeast and northern Florida, those with tender plants are advised to take precautionary measures.

The advisory, which extends from 2 AM to 9 AM EST tomorrow, cautions that “Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation.” Widespread frost is anticipated, particularly after 5 am tonight, and again mainly before 9 am on Sunday. As the temperature dips, frost remains a threat, and sensitive outdoor plants may be at risk of being killed if left uncovered. In a move, hasty gardeners would be wise to protect their vulnerable flora, echoing the sentiments put forth by the NWS.

Looking ahead, Jacksonville is bracing for varied conditions over the coming week. The NWS forecasts a temperature drop to around 47 degrees by 1 pm today, accompanied by gusty winds potentially reaching as high as 30 mph. Moreover, “Showers likely, mainly after 1pm,” are in the outlook for Monday, with a 60% chance of precipitation and persistent cloud cover. Despite the frosty start, weekdays will see a gradual warm-up with the promise of sunshine and highs hovering in the mid-50s to nearly 60 by the end of the week…
