New Castle County’s development impact fees will remain stationary after County Council could not override former County Executive, and incoming Delaware Governor, Matt Meyer’s veto.
County Council voted unanimously in December to raise impact fees for the first time since 1999 on new housing for county services such as police, fire, and parks, but in one of his final acts as County Executive, Meyer cited rising home prices countywide as a reason not to tack on an additional fee.
“This County is facing an unprecedented housing crisis, not only for the most vulnerable among us, but also for so many working families across our community. While the spirit and intent of these two ordinances is commendable, the actual implementation is much more complex and could lead to increasing the cost of homes, which will inevitably be passed on to home buyers,” Meyer wrote in a letter to Council…
