Repeated church crashes reinforce Newark City Council’s push for speed cameras

Pastor Blane Hackett said his mind quickly drifted to a what-if after seeing the damaged caused by a car that crashed into his St. John African Methodist Church in Newark Monday morning.

“We’re a part of this community, and we want to be able to stay there, and be safe there, because had we been having church there, the way it came up there and pushed those pews where our ushers usually sit, it could have been catastrophic.”

Monday’s wreck was the third crash at the church at the intersection of New London Road (Route 896) and Hillside Road in the past eight months…
