Wilmington Police have taken into custody a wanted Pennsylvania man following a routine vehicle stop that led to the discovery of drugs, according to a police report. The arrest occurred in the 600 block of North VanBuren Street just before 2 a.m. last Thursday. The man, identified as 25-year-old Sergio Bedolla-Cerritos of Kennett Square, PA, was initially stopped for an unrelated matter by members of the Uniformed Services Division. It was during this stop that police discovered Bedolla-Cerritos was wanted and found him to have 5 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Further investigation by the officers led to the recovery of an additional 77 grams of cocaine, elevating the incident from a routine stop to a more significant drug bust. Bedolla-Cerritos was subsequently charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver in Tier 3 Quantity and Possession of a Controlled Substance in Tier 1 Quantity, among other traffic violations. He faced justice at Justice of the Peace Court 20 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution with bail set at $62,000, cash-only.

Drug charges, particularly those involving intent to deliver, are treated with significant severity under the law given the potential for such substances to fuel the drug trade and associated criminal activity. The Wilmington Police Department’s discovery is part of ongoing efforts to address the narcotics issue within the community, often beginning with stops for seemingly minor infractions…
