After NYC street vendor crackdown, Mayor Adams calls for faster system improvement

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island Ferry riders are no strangers to seeing vendors as they make their way into Manhattan, especially in the summer time.

Mayor Eric Adams made it clear in his New Year’s Eve press conference that complaints about vendor licenses have always been a point of contention. He shared that he receives calls from people saying there are “too many vendors,” while others tell him that the City shouldn’t be cracking down on them.

“We need to find a way to make sure the system moves faster, and at the same time, we have to be very clear on where we can vend,” Adams said. “You just can’t vend outside a phone store selling items at 50% the cost of the phone store, which is paying for the brick and mortar, paying taxes and paying for employees. That’s just not fair.”…
