NEWARK, N.J. — The Archdiocese of Newark’s Mercy House brought Thanksgiving cheer to hundreds of families in need this week, distributing a record 650 turkeys during its annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway across its Newark, Elizabeth, and Jersey City locations.
The three-day event, held from November 19 to 21, surpassed last year’s total of 540 turkeys, underscoring the growing reach of the initiative. Families received not only turkeys but also bags filled with Thanksgiving staples such as stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes, ensuring they could enjoy a complete holiday meal.
“Love and family are hallmarks of the Catholic Church, so it’s only fitting that The Mercy House helps our clients celebrate a holiday that honors both,” said Cheryl A. Riley, director of The Mercy House. “This year, we were able to bring joy to more people than ever thanks to the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our staff and volunteers.”…
