2 Fairfield men charged after constructing explosive devices

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Two Fairfield men are facing charges after constructing explosive devices that left one of the teenagers with hand injuries, police said.

According to police, at around 12:25 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2024, officers were notified by an area hospital of a man being treated for “significant” hand injuries that were allegedly caused by an explosive device. The teenager told the hospital staff that he and his friend had built and caused multiple explosive devices to go off that day.

Following an investigation by multiple state agencies, it was found that the teenagers had constructed four explosive devices using materials that were purchased online and at stores. The devices were then taken to a secluded area in Pine Creek Marsh where they attempted to set them off. Two of the devices went off but one of them exploded prematurely, which caused a hand injury to the teen, police said.

The fourth device was found at Pine Creek Marsh and destroyed by the Stamford Police Bomb Squad, police said.
