For many of the participants in the annual indoor track and field state championships, this year’s edition will be a lot closer than previous years’.
The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association on Friday announced that the indoor track and field state meet will be held Feb. 22 at the University of Pennsylvania’s Ott Center, a roughly $70 million facility that opened in December. The Ott Center has a 200-meter banked track, two jumps runways, two pole vault runways and seating for more than 1,000 spectators. It is a short distance from Franklin Field along the Schuylkill River.
The Prince Georges Sports and Learning Center in the shadow of the Washington Commanders’ stadium in Landover, Maryland, has served as the site of the Delaware indoor track and field state meet every year since 2014 with the exceptions of 2021 when the state held an outdoor meet due to the COVID-19 pandemic and 2022 when the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore hosted. The Ott Center is of similar driving distance for Kent and Sussex county schools but closer for New Castle County schools.
