Nov. 17, 1904: “Notre Dame is working overtime in preparation for the final game for the state championship with Purdue. Nov. 18, 1913: “Living after the true fashion of a traditional hermit with only a meager supply of food, and shelter that consists of a wagon top covered with tin, a man sits before his fire in the stretch of woods east of the city, evidently contented with his self imposed lot in life.
