‘Dump the Pump’ wins as Architectural Review Board denies proposed gas station in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Architectural Review Board denied an application proposing a gas station to replace the CVS pharmacy in the Oakleigh Garden Historic District.

For almost a year, residents in the historic district have been campaigning against the Murphy USA gas station coming to their neighborhood. With concerns about pollution, overall look and use they have been hoping to “Dump the Pump.”

“There are a lot of good options that could go there, but one of them is not a gas station,” Government Street Collaborative President Bill Boswell said.

The ARB cannot deny the idea of a gas station itself even though board members expressed in the meeting that they are not fond of it either…
