Mobile city leaders once again voice support for adding red light cameras

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — Mobile Police are actively looking for drivers running red lights this week in an operation dubbed “red light blitz.” The blitz comes a week after a woman was arrested for running a red light on Airport Boulevard while intoxicated and killing Katherine Smith. This year, Mobile Police have responded to 77 crashes involving red lights at intersections and 812 drivers have been cited.

“It’s just unbelievable to me, the number of people we have not just running yellow lights, running red lights, running right through red lights,” said Councilman Joel Daves.

Daves commends the police for taking action and addressing the problem but believes there’s a more efficient way to do it…
