Planning and budgeting for the redevelopment of College Square Plaza is ongoing with construction planned to begin in late 2026. The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission approved the agreement to redevelop the plaza with the Athens Downtown Development Authority in November, but there are still opportunities for public input on the design.
College Square Plaza is one of the areas that draws Athens residents and tourists alike to downtown. By improving the square, ACCGov hopes to “foster new economic activity, jobs and cultural experiences” in downtown Athens.
