Sunday started cool with a cloudy sky and light rain early. Sunshine returned for some during the afternoon. Temperatures rose during the evening due to brisk south winds ahead of a line of rain and storms. The line was in west Alabama between 9 and 10PM. It was much more intense while it was in Mississippi. The line likely continues to weaken as it travels east across west and ultimately east Alabama Sunday night.
Still, the Storm Prediction Center maintains a marginal (level 1/5) severe risk across our area Sunday night. Damaging wind gusts and a brief tornado or two are the main hazards. Rain and thunder may still affect our easternmost row of counties through about 4AM. A cold front closely follows the back edge of rain, with much colder temperatures behind it.
Temperatures fall into the 30s to low 40s by sunrise Monday, with lower wind chills. Winds remains brisk throughout the day, out of the northwest at 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.
