Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals Upholds Murder Conviction

Montgomery, AL – Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has affirmed the murder conviction of Henry Joiner, 62, of Montgomery. Joiner was convicted in the Montgomery County Circuit Court on November 10, 2022, for the murder of Louis Miles.

The incident occurred on the evening of May 29, 2020, at the Destiny Inn in Montgomery, where the victim, Miles, resided. According to trial evidence, witnesses overheard an angry phone call involving Miles, after which he asked a neighbor to retrieve a rifle. Shortly after, Joiner arrived at the scene, assaulted Miles, and shot him multiple times before leaving the area.

The case was successfully prosecuted by Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey’s office, leading to Joiner’s conviction and a 99-year prison sentence. Joiner appealed the decision, seeking to have his conviction overturned…
