A thrilling weekend of college football led to major changes atop the poll.
The 2024 college football season is getting better and better. An upset-filled Week 5 altered the College Football Playoff picture behind several big upsets and other unexpected results, including two losses to unranked teams by last week’s AP Top 25. The new poll reflected the action in its rankings for Week 6. Alabama was the week’s biggest winner after its thrilling win over Georgia vaulted the Crimson Tide up three spots to No. 1, replacing fellow unbeaten Texas atop the poll.
The Crimson Tide entered Saturday night’s matchup with Georgia as a home underdog for the first time since 2007, Nick Saban’s inaugural year in Tuscaloosa. Alabama raced out to a 28-point lead but allowed Georgia to come all the way back take a lead late in the fourth. Kalen DeBoer and Co. survived thanks to late-game heroics from freshman wideout Ryan Williams, who finished with six catches for 177 yards and the game-winning score.
