It’s definitely going to feel every bit of winter this week! We have Arctic air flowing southward and eventually another precipitation event setting up for the area. It could lead to a wintry mix for some later this week.
In the meantime, it’s going to be rather cold! Overnight temps will drop into the 20s and daytime highs will only manage the 40s all week. We have to factor in the winds and it feels more like the upper teens to lower 20s tonight. High pressure will be moving over the deep south through most of the week. This will help clear the sky out and keep us mainly sunny but it won’t warm up that much thanks to the Arctic air in place.
Later this week, we have an area of low pressure developing along the northern gulf coast. This disturbance will send gulf moisture streaming into the state Thursday night into Friday. Our temps will be at or just below the freezing mark initially Friday morning. This would allow for a potential wintry mix for some. We expect that to be the case for areas along and north of the US-80/I-85 corridor. There could be a few hours where freezing rain becomes a threat. This will be something we keep an eye on through the week. The rest of our area will be dealing with a cold rain with the late week system…
